CYCLING TUCSON, Arizona – Let’s face it. When it comes to cycling
most cyclists who come here are not serious road bikers. Most people who come here just want to grab a bike, take out their families and have a good time. They don’t have $10,000 carbon bikes and they think wearing spandex is hideous.
Tucson is a great place for those just looking for fun, safe, easy riding.
Biking The Tucson Loop Shared Use Path
With over 100 miles of paved biking, The Loop is an awesome place enjoy biking safely without having to deal with any traffic. We recommend staying at the Homewood Suites By Hilton on Campbell and River or Candlewood Suites located just off the highway. Both of these hotels are pretty much right on The Loop.
The Homewood Suites is in an ideal central Tucson area to stay as there is plenty of great shopping and restaurants. Stay and bike here and you are a reasonable drive to just about anywhere in Tucson. There are shared bike lanes in this area, but the traffic is very heavy.
Work is ongoing to add more miles of paths. When completed, The Loop will total 131 miles and connect the Rillito River Park, Santa Cruz River Park, and Pantano River Park with Julian Wash and the Harrison Greenway. I recommend parking in the St Phillips Plaza and starting from there, going west.
With over 100 miles of paved shared use bike path, The Tucson Loop Bike Path has become one of America’s greatest and most successful municipal commitments to safe and enjoyable cycling.
Pima County is developing The Loop around metro Tucson with links to Marana, Oro Valley, and South Tucson. Pima County residents and visitors on foot, bikes, skates, and horses can enjoy the more than 100 miles of shared-use paths that have already been completed. If it doesn’t have a motor, it’s good to go on The Loop.
When all is finished, The Loop will be 131 miles of biking and shared use fun. Grab a bike, get some running shoes, hop on a horse and enjoy America’s greatest western city.
